In many European Markets the wholesaler and the pharmacy margins as well as the different taxes applied to medicines are defined by law. As such for these countries we have country specific laws that state the margins to be applied to product. For those countries that have margins not defined by law, several sources per country are consulted, such as ISPOR Reports, Individual Pharma Profiles and European Commission Reports.
Please note that the Rx Price Index does not include any confidential discounts arising from discussions between the Manufacturer and the HTA or the wholesaler, and the wholesaler and the pharmacy/HTA.
- Ex-Factory Price:
- How are the Price presented?
-
Prices are displayed with the same currency across all markets. Furthermore, we give you the possibility to choose between five major currencies: GBP, EUR, USD, JPY and CNY. All price points are converted using daily rates from the European Central Bank.
- Can I see the product price in the currency that the record was first captured?
- Once you download the data into excel, the product will be listed with the local currency at which the product was captured as well as the different price types. Furthermore, the excel file will also list the currency exchange rate that was used to convert the local prices into the selected currency.
- What is the source of the product information used in the database?
- The data from all the countries is sourced from publically available published databases that list medicinal and healthcare products. Many of these databases are supported by the local health authority in the country and are updated regularly to include any new products, price changes or product deletions.
- How often is the database updated?
- The schedule of published updates from each of the country’s health authority varies between 2 weeks and 6 months, depending on how often they change the price of their product. To provide a level of consistency throughout the database, the records for each of the countries within the RX Price Index will be updated on a monthly basis to incorporate any of these changes. The version number and date will be available on the search page of the website and on any CSV file that is downloaded from the site.
- What language is the product data presented in?
- All product information, where possible, has been translated into English and has been standardised to show the product details consistently throughout the RX Price Index.
